Everyday construction and cleanout debris is fine. The limits come from Indiana's disposal rules and from Greenfield's own code.
Indiana is strict about where waste ends up. State rules require waste to go to a facility that is permitted to accept that particular type, and open dumping and open burning are illegal. A permitted landfill may take household, construction and demolition, industrial process, and pollution control waste, but it is not allowed to accept hazardous waste at all.
That last point is the hard line for a container. Paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, pool chemicals, and anything else hazardous have to be kept out and handled separately.
Greenfield adds a transport rule that affects how your load is handled. Equipment used to collect refuse in the city must have a covered or enclosed body with a watertight bed, so a container that is overloaded above the rails can be a problem on pickup day. Keep the load level with the top.
The City also expects a property to be kept clear. If debris piles up outside a container, the Building Commissioner can serve a five-day notice, have it hauled away, and bill the owner for the cost. If an item has you guessing, ask your account manager before it goes in.
