Porta Potty Rental in Texas

At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across 149 Texas cities, from the Dallas and Fort Worth suburbs to Houston, the Rio Grande Valley, and El Paso. We set up units for construction sites of every size, weddings, rodeos, festivals, and other events, plus emergency restrooms when a storm or a water main break leaves people without a working bathroom.

What you pay depends on a short list of things. How many units you need, which type you pick, how long they stay, how often our crew cleans them, and how far the truck has to drive all show up in your quote.

Below, you'll find average prices, a simple way to figure your unit count, when a Texas permit comes into play, and the state rules for food events and waste hauling.

What Factors Affect Your Porta Potty Rental Price?

Every rental includes delivery, cleaning visits during your rental, and pickup at the end. These are the details that push a Texas quote higher or lower: - Rental length: A party or festival is usually booked as a weekend rental. Builders keep units for months, and those rentals are billed in four-week blocks. - Number of units: Each unit you add raises the total. Getting the count right up front means you don't pay for units that sit unused. - Service visits: A visit means the tank gets pumped, the inside gets scrubbed, and paper and hand sanitizer get restocked. Big crowds and big crews call for extra visits. - Delivery distance and site access: A unit set beside a paved driveway goes in fast. A pasture gate, a muddy ranch road after rain, or a lot with no room to turn around adds time. - Unit type and add-ons: Flushing units, units with a sink, solar units, and restroom trailers all cost more than a standard unit. Handwashing stations are priced one by one.

Texas adds two things to think about. First, summer heat is hard on portable toilets. Tanks fill and smell sooner on a 100-degree day, so a July job may need more service visits than the same job in March. Second, food vendors at your event need nearby toilets and a way to wash their hands, as the state health rules below explain. Planning a few handwashing stations close to the food area often covers them.

Your Prime Dumpster account manager can go over each of these with you and price the setup that fits your site and dates.

Do I Need a Permit for a Porta Potty in Texas?

If the unit sits on private land, like your yard, a ranch, a church lot with the owner's okay, or a fenced job site, you usually won't need a permit. Public land is different. A unit on a street, sidewalk, park, or highway shoulder needs a green light from whoever is in charge of that ground.

Texas has no single permit for portable toilets. The office you'll deal with depends on the road or property:

  • State highways and Farm to Market roads. These roads are part of the state system run by the Texas Department of Transportation. City streets and county roads are not. TxDOT's right-of-way manual covers temporary uses of state land. A property owner who needs short-term use of the state strip next to their land for work on that property can sign a TxDOT access agreement. The local area office wants 72 hours' notice before any traffic control goes up.
  • City streets and county roads. Your city handles its own streets and parks. Out in the country, the county looks after county roads. Many cities won't let anything sit on a sidewalk, and parks often ask you to reserve space first.
  • Events that close a state road. Inside city limits, the city signs a temporary closure agreement with TxDOT. Outside city limits, the group running the event signs one itself. Either way, the TxDOT district engineer has to approve it.
  • Local event permits. Parades, street fairs, and big public gatherings usually need a city or county event permit, and restrooms are often part of the review.
  • Food at your event. Each food booth needs a health permit. Where no city or county health department covers the area, the Texas Department of State Health Services issues it, and applications are due 30 days before the event.

A county road can turn into a state highway at the next corner, so the exact drop spot matters. Your account manager can help you track down the right office before the delivery date.

How Many Porta Potties Do I Need?

Your count comes down to how many people will be there and how long they'll stay. Start with these numbers: - Events: Figure 1 unit for every 50 guests at an event that runs around four hours. If drinks are flowing, bump that up by 15 to 20 percent. - Construction sites: Under federal worker-safety rules, a crew of 20 or fewer needs at least 1 toilet. Past 20 workers, plan on 1 toilet and 1 urinal for every 40. - Accessible units: For public events, set aside at least 1 accessible unit in each group, which works out to roughly 1 in 20. - Emergencies: For storm cleanup or relief work, plan on 1 unit for every 10 workers.

A long day in the sun, a big crowd, or a food line will fill tanks quicker than the basic math suggests. Try our porta potty calculator for a first estimate, and your account manager will help you fine-tune it.

Porta Potty Rules and Requirements in Texas

Three sets of rules shape most Texas rentals: access for people with disabilities, health rules for food events, and how the waste gets hauled away. - Accessible units: Federal accessibility standards apply across Texas. When portable toilets are set out in a group for public use, the ADA standards call for 5 percent of each group to be accessible, and every group should have at least one. Units that only a construction crew uses are exempt. - Food booths and handwashing: The state health department's temporary food rules say toilets must be close by for food workers. Booths also need a handwashing setup with warm running water from a spigot, soap, paper towels, and a container to catch the used water. A handwashing station placed near the food area makes that simple. - Waste hauling: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality counts portable toilet waste as one of the loads that only a registered sludge transporter may haul. Each registered truck carries TCEQ stickers and a copy of its registration. The registration lists the treatment sites the hauler will use. A trip ticket records every pickup and every drop-off, so the waste can be traced from your unit to a permitted facility. - Job sites: Federal worker-safety rules require toilets on construction sites and tie the minimum count to crew size. Place them where workers can reach them quickly.

If your plans include a public event, food vendors, or a long job site rental, your Prime Dumpster account manager can confirm what applies and plan the units around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a porta potty rental cost in Texas?

A standard porta potty averages $199–$349 per unit, and an ADA-compliant unit averages $200–$300. Deluxe flushing units and units with a sink run $300–$400, and restroom trailers start at $1,500. The unit count, rental length, and service schedule decide your final price. Your account manager confirms it in a free quote.

How many porta potties do I need for an event?

Start with 1 unit for every 50 guests at an event of about four hours. Serving alcohol? Add 15 to 20 percent. Hot Texas afternoons and longer events fill tanks faster, so an extra unit or a midday service visit helps. Public events should include at least one accessible unit.

Do I need a permit for a porta potty in Texas?

Not on private property in most cases. A unit on a state highway or Farm to Market road involves TxDOT, while city streets, parks, and county roads fall to the city or county. Public events often need a local event permit as well. Your account manager can help you find the right office.

How often are porta potties serviced?

Most rentals include one service visit each week. Our crew pumps the tank, cleans the inside, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Large crowds, big crews, and summer heat can call for more visits. Your account manager builds a schedule around how hard your units will be used.

Do I need an ADA-accessible porta potty?

Yes, if members of the public will use your units. Federal accessibility standards ask for accessible units to make up about 5 percent of each group, with at least one per group. Units used only by a construction crew are exempt. Your account manager can help you choose the right mix.

How far in advance should I book a porta potty in Texas?

For a job site, a few days' notice usually works, and delivery often comes within 24 to 48 hours. Book several weeks ahead for spring festivals, fall weddings, and holiday weekends. If food vendors need a state health permit, their applications are due 30 days before the event.
