City parks: Lubbock is stricter than most cities here. A City ordinance bars placing or using a portable toilet in any public park, playground, or public space, except at the areas the Parks and Recreation Director has designated for them. The City publishes the list of approved parks, which runs to about 30 locations and includes Andrews, Clapp, Chatman, Cooke, Davies, Hood, Maxey, and McAlister Parks, the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex, and several of the lakes. If your park isn't on the list, the unit can't go there. Call 806-775-2669 to check, and ask athletics staff at 806-775-2672 about ball fields.
Streets: Closing a residential street for a gathering runs through the recreational street use permit from the Office of the City Secretary, filed at least 10 days ahead. A late application costs $25 more and the City will not accept one inside 48 hours of the event. For a weekend event, the application has to be in by noon on the Wednesday before. Noise permits have their own windows, 5 days for a single day and 10 days for two or more.
Food vendors: Lubbock runs its own environmental health program and issues a temporary food permit, with the application on its forms page. Environmental Health is at 2015 50th Street and answers at 806-775-2928. Texas rules expect each booth to have a handwashing setup with an insulated water container and a spigot, a container for the wastewater, soap, and disposable towels.
State highways: The loop, the interstate, and several main roads through town are state right-of-way, and an event closure there goes through a state transportation agreement that the district engineer approves. Firm, level ground first. Caliche holds a unit well, which is an advantage here, but fresh fill on a new pad and the low spots that hold water after a hard rain will both let a unit settle and lean.
Think about wind when you choose the spot. A unit tucked beside a building or a wall rides out a dust storm far better than one standing alone in an open field, and we can stake or weight units where there's no shelter. Say the word when you book.
Give the driver a clear path. A service truck needs to reach within about 25 feet of the door with room to turn. Field roads, soft turnrows, and gin yards full of modules are the usual obstacles, so tell us the approach and the right truck can be sent.
