Lumber, sheetrock, roofing, flooring, carpet, cabinets, doors, windows, trim, fixtures, furniture, and general cleanout junk are all fine in a standard container.
Hazardous material is not. Paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, pool chemicals, motor oil, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and chemicals of any kind have to stay out, and the District that receives Allen's waste says plainly that batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and chemicals are never accepted. Asbestos, ammunition, explosives, medical waste, and electronics are all handled separately too.
Liquids are a specific problem. Allen's code requires commercial customers to keep liquid waste of any type out of their containers and to make sure nothing leaks from them. Propane tanks are refused whether they are full or empty, and a lawn mower only goes in once the fuel and oil are drained.
Tires come with their own rules at the landfill and a per-tire charge, and loader, farm tractor, grader, and scraper tires are refused outright. Treated and painted wood is excluded from the District's wood recycling route, so fencing and deck boards are priced as ordinary debris rather than recycled material.
