A container on private property, in a driveway or inside a job-site boundary, is the normal arrangement across Grayson County, and no placement permit question arises for most jobs outside the Sherman city limits.
Inside the Sherman city limits the picture is different, and we would rather set it out plainly than let you find out later. The City of Sherman states on its own website that it is the exclusive provider of commercial waste and recycling services for business and industry in the Sherman city limits. It sells front-load containers, roll-off containers from 20 through 40 cubic yards, cardboard recycling and waste audits into that position, through its Solid Waste and Recycling department.
What we cannot tell you is how wide that exclusivity reaches. Sherman's ordinances are published through an outside publisher whose system does not serve automated requests, and the city's own code page carries no text. So three real questions are open: whether the exclusivity covers a temporary construction container rather than ongoing premises service, whether it reaches a residential renovation when the claim is framed around business and industry, and which instrument carries it.
So the first action on a commercial job inside the Sherman city limits is a call to the City's Solid Waste and Recycling department on 903-892-7261, and we make it. If the answer is that the City has to handle your commercial service, we will tell you so, and we will tell you where we can still be useful: the 10-yard and 15-yard sizes the City does not offer, residential work, and any job on the Grayson County side of the city line. We would rather be the company that gave you the straight answer than the one that sent a truck it should not have sent.
Two other city rules are worth knowing. Sherman's Environmental Code Compliance department enforces the codes covering trash, junk, debris, litter, obstructions and open storage, separately from building code compliance. A container that spills or blocks a sidewalk is their business, so keep the load below the rim and the surround clear. And the City's household hazardous waste collection, run with the regional council of governments, falls on Saturday 2 May 2026 and does not accept business or contractor waste.
