Areas We Service
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across 309 California cities, from San Diego and Los Angeles to the Bay Area, the Central Valley, and the far north. Our units go to construction sites, farm fields, film shoots, weddings, street fairs, and other events, and we can send emergency restrooms after a wildfire, flood, or earthquake. Tell us about your project and we'll recommend the units and cleaning plan that fit.
Your price follows the choices you make. The number of units, the style, the rental length, and the cleaning schedule matter most. Traffic, drive time, and how close our truck can park to the drop spot count too.
In the sections below, you'll find price ranges, a sizing guide, when California needs a permit, and the state and county rules that cover sanitation, food events, and waste.

The core of any rental is the same: drop off, regular cleaning, and pickup. What sets one quote apart from another is how much of each your project needs. - Rental length: A weekend party or festival is usually priced as a three-day rental. Building projects use 28-day cycles, so you pay month by month until the job is done. - Number of units: Every added unit raises the total. California's worker rules can call for more units than you might expect, so getting the count right early keeps surprises off the bill. - Service visits: At each visit, our crew empties the tank, cleans the inside, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Busy sites and long events need more trips, and each one adds cost. - Delivery distance and site access: A flat driveway in Fresno is an easy drop. A hillside home in the Oakland hills, a vineyard road in Paso Robles, or a downtown Los Angeles block with no parking takes more time and planning. - Unit type and add-ons: Flushing units, sink units, solar units, and restroom trailers cost more than a standard porta potty. Handwashing stations are priced on their own.
Two California points often shape the final number: - Stricter job site counts: California's own worker-safety rules ask for more toilets on a building site than federal rules do once a crew grows past 20. A bigger crew here can mean more units and more cleanings. - County event rules: County health offices set toilet and handwashing rules for food events. Los Angeles County, for example, asks for one handwashing sink for every four public toilets, which can add stations to your order.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager can walk you through both points and build a quote that fits your dates, crowd, and location.
A unit on private property, such as a backyard, a farm, or a fenced job site, usually needs no permit. Public space is different. If a unit sits on a street, sidewalk, park, or highway shoulder, the agency that controls that space has to approve it.
California doesn't issue one statewide porta potty permit. The office depends on where the unit goes:
A state route often doubles as a town's main street, so the exact spot decides which office you need. Your account manager can help you find the right contact before delivery day.
The count comes down to how many people you expect and how long they'll stay. Use these guides as a starting point: - Events: Budget 1 unit per 50 guests for an event of about four hours. When alcohol is served, add 15 to 20 percent. - Construction sites: Federal worker-safety rules set a floor of 1 toilet for up to 20 workers, then 1 toilet and 1 urinal per 40. California goes further. Cal/OSHA calls for 1 toilet for every 20 workers of each sex, and a crew under five can share one all-gender unit. - Farm field crews: Cal/OSHA's field sanitation rules ask for toilets for each sex and 1 handwashing station for every 20 workers, within a quarter-mile walk or five minutes. - Accessible units: Public events should have at least 1 accessible unit, or about 1 in 20. - Emergencies: For fire, flood, or quake recovery, plan 1 unit per 10 relief workers.
Long hours, heat, and food service all raise the count. Our porta potty calculator gives a quick estimate, and your account manager can check it against the rules for your site.
California layers state and county rules on top of federal ones. Here's what matters for most renters. - Accessible units: The federal ADA standards require 5 percent of each group of portable toilets set out for the public to be accessible and marked with the wheelchair symbol. Units used only by a construction crew are exempt. - Worker sanitation: Cal/OSHA sets California's own job site rules. Beyond the higher toilet count, it requires units to be kept clean, private, and stocked with toilet paper. On farms, toilets and handwashing must be close together and close to the crew. - Food events: County health offices decide what food vendors need. Los Angeles County's event rules are a good example. Food workers need 1 toilet for every 15 employees within 200 feet of each booth or truck, with a handwashing sink next to each toilet. Public restrooms need 1 handwashing sink for every 4 toilets. At multi-day events, restrooms should be cleaned at the end of each day. The county's health code guide even lists how many toilets to provide by crowd size and hours, such as 6 toilets for fewer than 500 people over four hours. - Waste handling: In Los Angeles County, pumper trucks carry portable toilet waste to an approved sewage treatment plant, and operators renew a county health permit every year. The county also inspects pumper trucks and toilet rental companies. Haulers then need a permit from the Sanitation Districts to unload at one of their disposal stations in Carson, Pomona, Santa Clarita, or Lancaster.
If your plans include a public event, food vendors, a farm crew, or a long job site, your Prime Dumpster account manager can confirm what applies and set up your units to match.

Standard porta potties average $199 to $349 per unit, and ADA-compliant units average $200 to $300. Flushing and sink units run $300 to $400, and restroom trailers start at $1,500. Your total depends on unit count, rental length, and how often the units are cleaned. Your account manager confirms your price in a free quote.
Plan on about 1 unit for every 50 guests over four hours, then add 15 to 20 percent if alcohol is served. Longer or hotter days call for more. Public events need at least one accessible unit, and county food rules may add units. Our calculator helps, and your account manager can review the count.
Not usually on private property. Units on a state highway need a Caltrans encroachment permit, which you can apply for online. City streets, sidewalks, and parks fall to the city or county. Events with food need county health approval, often 30 days ahead. Your account manager can help you find the right office.
Most rentals include one cleaning a week. Each visit covers pumping the tank, cleaning the unit, and restocking paper and sanitizer. Heavy use, summer heat, and large crews may call for more, and some counties expect daily cleaning at multi-day events. Your account manager will set a schedule that fits your site.
Yes, if members of the public will use your units. Federal standards ask for about 5 percent of each group to be accessible, with at least one per group. Units used only by construction crews are exempt, though adding one is often a good idea. Your account manager can help you choose the right mix.
For a job site or home project, a few days' notice is usually enough. For weddings, festivals, and holiday weekends, book several weeks ahead, since popular dates fill fast. Events with food or road use take longer, because counties like Los Angeles want organizer applications 30 days out.
