At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Coachella, California, a desert farming city where construction and events both have to work around extreme heat. Packing house and cold storage projects, housing and street work around the Pueblo Viejo district, agricultural jobs in the date gardens and grape blocks off Avenue 48 and Avenue 54, and community gatherings on city ground all need restrooms trucked in and serviced properly. Coachella is also one of the few cities we serve that publishes a plain written permit route for putting an object in the street, which makes the answer here unusually clear.
Your quote depends on the unit, the length of the booking, how many service visits it takes and how far the run is off the paved road. What follows sets out the ranges, the California counts for crews and guests, the city permit route in its own words, and the one city rule that looks like a ban on portable toilets and is not.
Heat sets the Coachella service pattern, and it is the first thing to price. Summer afternoons here run far above a hundred degrees for weeks together. A unit standing in open sun on a crew site needs attention several times more often than the same unit would in a mild month, and that visit frequency is the single biggest difference between a desert quote and a coastal one.
Travel distance is the second driver. A unit at a packing house yard on the highway is a quick run. A unit out on a date garden access road is a slower one, and that shows up in the repeat visit rather than the delivery.
Season is the third, and it works the opposite way from most of California. The valley's busy visitor and event season falls in the cooler months, so trailers and accessible units are tightest between late autumn and spring. Book early for a winter date and you will have more choice than a summer caller does.

The state's construction toilet rule sets one separate toilet facility for every twenty employees or part of twenty, counted for each sex, and it goes on climbing with no ceiling. Urinals can share the load here provided toilets never drop under half the minimum figure. With fewer than five employees, one single-user facility marked for all-gender use suffices on its own.
Three further parts of the rule fit desert and farm work closely:
Washing runs alongside it. The state's washing facilities rule requires one station per twenty employees or fraction of twenty, with water, a cleaning agent and single-use towels or a warm-air blower, placed so a user can wash straight after using a toilet. Where it serves a chemical unit the station needs a notice that the water is for washing and has to stand clear of the toilet rather than being attached to it.
For guests, Coachella publishes no ratio. Use one unit per fifty guests over about four hours, lift it by fifteen to twenty percent where alcohol is served, and keep at least one accessible unit on any public layout. The Prime Dumpster calculator gives you a starting figure.
The Standard Porta Potty covers most of what is delivered here, from a fenced building site to a packing yard to a field block, and it is the unit the state rules contemplate where no sewer reaches the work. The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty enters at grade with grab bars and interior turning room, and belongs on every public event layout in the city.
For a wedding or any date where guests are present, the Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty offers a flush with clean bowl water, while the Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink carries the handwashing inside.
A Solar Porta Potty brings its own light, which is the straightforward answer on a field block or a yard with no power run. A Handwashing Station is how Coachella crews meet the state washing duty and is expected beside food vendors, which matters a great deal in this climate. For a long project or a formal event, the Restroom Trailer gives separate stalls with heating and cooling, and the cooling is not a luxury here. Our porta potty options page lists every unit we run in the Coachella Valley.
On private ground, no. A unit in a packing yard, a fenced site, a farm lot or a residential driveway in Coachella needs no city permit, and that covers most of our work here.
The street is where Coachella is genuinely useful, because it publishes the route in plain terms. The city's street rules make it unlawful to make, or cause to be made, any obstruction on or any encroachment upon any city street, sidewalk or other public place without first getting a written permit from the city engineer and making a deposit to cover inspection and restoring the place to its original condition. A delivered restroom sitting at the curb is an obstruction on a public place, so the rule reaches it, and a permit for it exists. The city defines street broadly too, taking in the travel portion of any alley, highway, parkway, sidewalk, street or other public way together with the city's right of way.
Three practical points come with that permit and they are worth planning around:
Now the rule that looks worse than it is. The city's sewer and sewage disposal rules state that, except as provided in that chapter, it is unlawful to construct any privy, privy vault, septic tank, cesspool, seepage pit or other facility intended or used for the disposal of sewage. Read in isolation, that sounds like a ban. Read in place, it is not. It sits inside the sewer chapter and governs permanent sewage disposal arrangements on a property, the operative word is construct, and the facility has to be one intended or used for disposal. A portable unit is delivered rather than constructed, and it holds waste for removal to a treatment works rather than disposing of it on site. So that provision does not bar portable toilets in Coachella. It is worth knowing it exists, because a careless reading of the same words would wrongly tell you the city forbids a portable toilet.
Set units on firm, level ground with the door clear of the walking line, and in Coachella make shade part of the decision. A position on the north or east side of a building or a container stack keeps the unit far more usable through a summer afternoon than one in open sun, and it is worth a few extra feet of hose to get it.
Give the service truck a straight approach within hose reach and room to turn. On farm ground that means the firm access road rather than soft watered soil, because a loaded unit settles and a vacuum truck settles faster.
Keep units well away from food preparation, drinking water and air intakes. Past five people on a Coachella crew the state pairing bites, and the washing station has to stand free of the unit with its washing notice on it.
Weekly service is the published baseline, with the tank pumped, the unit washed out, deodorizer recharged and paper and sanitizer restocked. In Coachella, through the hot months, that baseline is rarely the right answer. Twice weekly is the sensible default on a crew site and daily is normal at any event where food is served.
On the service side the state governs us rather than you. Anyone in the business of cleaning chemical toilets must hold an unrevoked registration from the local health officer, the application has to name the exact disposal location, and the registration lapses at the end of each calendar year. Riverside County runs environmental health programs of its own, but the county environmental health host did not answer any of our requests today, so nothing here claims a county requirement in either direction. Prime Dumpster works to the state rule, and your account manager keeps the Coachella service record on the account.

Most standard Coachella orders go out inside a day or two. The cooler months are the busy event season in this valley, and trailers and accessible units are committed first.
Our Coachella routes run the length of the valley on both sides of the highway, serving Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Cathedral City, Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Thermal, Mecca, Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage, together with the porta potty service areas listed below.
In Coachella a standard unit runs $199 to $349 and an accessible unit $200 to $300. Flushing and sink units sit at $300 to $400, solar at $500 to $600, a station at $150 to $250, and a trailer starts at $1,500. Summer service frequency is the factor that moves a desert total most.
Coachella publishes no ratio. Plan one unit for each fifty guests across about four hours, add fifteen to twenty percent where alcohol is served, and keep at least one accessible unit on a public layout. Your account manager will size the order and take the number into the city conversation.
The state asks for one separate toilet facility for each twenty employees or part of twenty, counted for each sex, with no ceiling and toilets never under half the total. Temporary field conditions require one toilet to be available regardless of headcount. A Coachella crew under five may share one all-gender unit.
Weekly is the baseline, covering pumping, a wash out, fresh deodorizer and restocked supplies. Coachella summer heat makes twice weekly the realistic choice on a crew site, and daily is normal wherever food is served. Your account manager locks the frequency when the Coachella order is placed.
No. A unit on your own Coachella yard, driveway, farm lot or fenced site needs no city permit. Keep the unit inside the Coachella boundary and clear of the walkway. A position in a Coachella street or on a sidewalk does need a written permit from the city engineer.
A standard unit is the compact model that fits a yard corner or a farm access road. An accessible unit is wider, enters at grade, carries grab bars and keeps wheelchair room clear. It needs level, firm ground and a smooth approach with no step.
A Coachella weekend booking quotes from the standard $199 to $349 range, because delivery and collection are the same two trips whether the unit stays two days or two months. A short desert booking therefore prices at the high end of that range. Your account manager prices a Coachella weekend around the month it falls in.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. Say which months the booking covers, because a July order and a January order in this valley are different service plans even for the same unit.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
