Nearly all home and construction debris is welcome. The limits come from Florida law and from what the county landfill that takes your load is allowed to accept.
Florida keeps four things out of landfills: lead-acid batteries, used oil, white goods such as refrigerators and washers, and yard trash at most lined household-waste landfills. Batteries are also barred from waste-to-energy plants statewide.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of every standard container.
The Broward County Landfill adds its own refusals. It won't take household garbage, hazardous or biomedical waste, lead-acid batteries, used oil, or anything containing PCBs, and it only accepts waste that came from inside Broward County. A mobile home needs written asbestos clearance from a Florida licensed consultant before the gate will weigh it.
Cooper City also runs a monthly household hazardous waste drop-off for residents at a site in nearby Davie, which is the simpler route for old paint and chemicals. If you're unsure about an item, ask your account manager before it goes in the container.
