Two County landfills take Hialeah construction and demolition debris, and both are owned and run by Miami-Dade County's Department of Solid Waste Management rather than by a company.
North Dade Landfill at 21500 NW 47th Avenue, Miami, FL 33055 is the closer of the two, roughly ten miles north of central Hialeah. The County describes it as a trash-only site between NW 47th and NW 57th Avenues where haulers can deliver old furniture, lumber, crates, large off-road tires, cardboard and yard trash along with construction and demolition debris. Its scale office numbers are 305-514-6253 and 305-514-6254.
South Dade Landfill at 23707 SW 97th Avenue, Gate A, Homestead, FL 33032 takes a wider range, including garbage, tires, trash, yard trash, construction and demolition debris and asbestos. Its scale office is 305-258-6949 and the landfill office is 305-258-2830.
Both sites are working landfills and the County requires a reflective safety vest to enter, with hard hats, safety glasses and closed or steel-toed boots strongly recommended. Nobody is let in without a vest.
The County also runs regional transfer stations on NE 6th Avenue and SW 72nd Avenue that take garbage and trash from County, municipal and private haulers, with a transfer fee per ton added to the disposal charge.
Where a load may go is not open. The County requires a permitted hauler to dispose only at facilities the Department provides, operates, designates or approves, and the Board can draw a geographical service area around a facility and then require waste from that area to go through it. Your account manager confirms the destination and the gate charge before delivery, and will give you the scale office number if you want to check the day's hours yourself.
