Ordinary house and jobsite debris is welcome. The limits come from the Broward County Landfill and from city rules about what may be hauled.
The county landfill takes bulk waste, yard trash and construction and demolition debris, and nothing else. It refuses household garbage, hazardous waste, biomedical waste, lead-acid batteries, used oil, and anything containing PCBs. It also accepts only material generated inside Broward County, so a load brought over from Miami-Dade or Palm Beach will be turned away.
That keeps the usual items out of your container: paint, solvents, fuel, pool chemicals, propane tanks, car batteries, motor oil, and anything wet. Asbestos never belongs in a general debris load, which matters on older Fort Lauderdale houses.
The city also bars bricks, concrete, lumber, dirt, plaster, sand and gravel from curbside collection, and requires every load leaving a site to be tarped and tied down so nothing blows out on the way.
If you are unsure whether an item belongs in the container, ask your account manager first. One wrong item can hold up a whole load at the gate.
