Framing, plaster, lath, drywall, roofing, flooring, siding, cabinets, doors, windows, fencing, furniture, and general cleanout debris are all fine in a standard container.
Illinois keeps several things out of a landfill by statute. The Illinois EPA says state law prohibits landfilling many common electronic items, including televisions and computers, and state law also bans landfilling used or waste tires, which have to go to a permitted tire disposal or recycling facility. The agency asks for used batteries to go to a drop-off site instead of a container, because they start fires in trucks and at sorting plants.
Hazardous material stays out as well: paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, pool chemicals, motor oil, and liquids of any kind. The City runs a separate route for bulk items, electronics, and household hazardous waste, and that is where those belong.
Asbestos needs its own mention in a town this old. Pipe wrap, floor tile, siding shingles, and some plaster systems can contain it, and it has to be surveyed and removed by a licensed abatement contractor rather than loaded into a container.
If you are not sure about an item, check with your account manager before it goes in, and we will arrange the right route for it.
