The 10-Yard Dumpster is our smallest. It suits a single bathroom, a small basement cleanout, or a load of brick, block or old concrete, where weight gives out before space does.
The 15-Yard Dumpster is a good fit for a garage clearing, a flooring tear-out, or a small roof job, and it fits on a narrow lot more easily than the next size up.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the most common choice here. A full apartment gut, a kitchen and bath together, or a two-flat cleanout all fit.
The 30-Yard Dumpster is for larger rehabs, additions, and commercial work with room on site.
The 40-Yard Dumpster is our largest. It is meant for demolition and industrial jobs with space to place it.
Tell your account manager about the lot as well as the job, because on a narrow Maywood parcel the right size is partly about what will physically fit.
On private property, your driveway, your yard or a job site, Maywood publishes no permit for a container, and that is where almost every rental goes.
The street and the alley are a different answer, and it is a firm one. Maywood's waste rules make it unlawful to place a waste container in an alley, street or walkway. The only exception written into the code is for properties where there is no parkway between the sidewalk and the street. The same rule says a container set at the rear of a lot has to sit entirely inside the lot line, and one set at the curb has to be right against it.
That is stricter than a permit requirement, because there is nothing to apply for. Plan the drop spot on your own property from the start, and if your lot genuinely cannot take it, talk to the village before you book rather than after.
Maywood does publish a right-of-way permit form through Code Enforcement for work in the village right-of-way generally, and a contractor license is a separate requirement for anyone doing the work. Ordinary rehab and cleanout debris is exactly what these containers are for. The limits come from Illinois law and from village rules.
Illinois bans several things from landfills statewide. Televisions, computers and many other electronics cannot be landfilled, and used or waste tires are banned as well and have to go to a permitted tire facility. The state also warns that batteries start fires in trucks and at sorting facilities and asks that they go to a drop-off site instead.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel and asbestos never belong in a container. Asbestos is worth taking seriously in Maywood, where a lot of the housing predates the 1960s and old pipe wrap, floor tile and siding can contain it. Have it tested before a gut starts.

Cook County does not have a landfill. Illinois counts its landfills by region, and the capacity report for the Chicago metropolitan region lists just four with remaining capacity, every one of them outside Cook County in Lake County or Will County. Between them the region has about 12.3 years of capacity left, the tightest figure in the state.
The only one of the four that a public body owns is Will County's Prairie View landfill, built on land the federal government handed to the county when the old Joliet Army Ammunition Plant was decommissioned. Its closing date was pushed to 2042 so the plant cleanup could finish there.
