Kane County has no active landfill within its borders. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency lists 38 active municipal solid waste landfills statewide and not one of them is in Kane, so every container filled in Batavia crosses a county line before it is tipped.
The closest active sites are the DeKalb County Landfill at 18370 Somonauk Road in DeKalb, roughly 18 miles west, and the Laraway Recycling and Disposal Facility at 21233 W Laraway Road in Joliet, roughly 27 miles southeast, with further capacity at 6513 Mulford Road in Rochelle and 31725 N Route 83 in Grayslake. These are privately operated sites, so we name them by address and let the material decide which gate makes sense.
The City's own curbside service cannot stand in for a container on a remodel. Batavia takes construction and demolition debris at the curb only when every piece is cut under 4 feet long and 2 feet across, bundled or bagged, free of nails and sharp edges, and under 50 pounds per bundle. A bathroom strip-out passes none of those tests.
For material no landfill accepts, the public option is the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville, IL 60540, one of four such sites in the state and funded in part by Kane County. It opens Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., takes no appointment and charges Illinois residents nothing, and it accepts asbestos that is triple bagged, under 50 pounds and small enough for a 55-gallon drum. It does not take business waste. Your account manager confirms the destination for your load, and what that site will charge, before we schedule the truck.
