Most construction and cleanout debris is fine. The hard limits come from Illinois law and from the facility that receives the load.
Illinois now keeps a long list of electronics out of landfills. Since the start of 2026, televisions, monitors, computers, tablets, printers, scanners, game consoles, and home audio gear are all banned from landfill disposal, and the ban covers businesses and households alike. Keep every screen and every circuit board out of the container, because one of them can get an entire load turned away.
Hazardous material is out as well. That means paint, solvents, fuel, used oil, pesticides, and anything corrosive or flammable. Liquids, asbestos, and medical waste cannot go in either.
Tires and large appliances need to be handled separately, so mention them when you book. The city's own trash service will not take tires, yard waste, or building materials in a toter, which tells you how the local facilities treat them.
There is one Belleville rule worth knowing about how a container may be used. City code bars placing a dumpster on a property so that vehicles hauling trash and junk for pay can unload into it, and the penalty falls on the property owner as well as the vehicle owner. If you are unsure about an item, ask your account manager before it goes in.
