Most of what comes out of a remodel is fine: lumber, drywall, roofing, flooring, cabinets, doors, carpet, furniture and general junk from a cleanout.
Illinois law keeps a defined list out of landfills, and the Village publishes it for residents. Tires and automobile batteries are barred, along with explosives, toxic and volatile waste, flammable material, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, acids and poisons, large automobile parts and wheels, swimming pool chemicals, and paint in liquid form. Compact fluorescent and fluorescent bulbs are out too.
Electronics have been banned from Illinois landfills since 2012 and have to go to a registered collector or recycler, so televisions, monitors, computers and printers must be pulled out before a container is loaded. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency keeps the current state guidance on all of this.
Asbestos, liquids of any kind, sealed drums and medical waste stay out as well. If you are unsure about an item, ask your account manager before it goes over the side.
