The 15-Yard Dumpster is a good middle choice for a garage, a basement storage room, or the first stage of a kitchen tear-out.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the workhorse on Downers Grove remodels. Multi-room renovations, flooring across a whole floor, and estate cleanouts all fit without a second haul.

On private property the container is allowed, but Downers Grove attaches conditions that few towns do, so read these before you book. The Village requires construction and demolition debris containment on every job site, inside a dumpster or container on the property covered by the permit. The container must sit at least five feet back from the front lot line and five feet from the side lot line, and it must be covered at all times when nobody is working on the site.
The public way is where the Village is strictest. That same construction site rule says a job site container may not be located on public property, including parkways and sidewalks. The general streets article does contemplate a permitted street container for construction debris, but only where the container is supplied by a Village-licensed scavenger and a permit has been issued first. Because the two provisions pull in different directions, treat the private-property placement as the safe plan and let the Village decide any street request.
Street permits come from the Director of Public Works. Applications go on Village forms, no work may start until the permit issues, and the application has to carry plans showing the work, the time it will take and its estimated cost, plus a performance bond and an indemnity. Bond amounts and fees sit in a separate Village fee regulation rather than in the code, so ask the office for the current figures.

Standard construction and cleanout debris is fine: lumber, drywall, roofing, flooring, trim, cabinets, furniture, carpet and ordinary household junk.
Hazardous material is not. Paint, stains, solvents, fuel, motor oil, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids all need the household hazardous waste route described in the next section. So do batteries and fluorescent tubes.
Electronics are handled separately in Illinois and should be pulled out before loading. Tires and appliances holding refrigerant are also billed and handled on their own, so mention them when you book rather than hiding them in the load.
Village rules bar dumping garbage, compostable material, combustible material or junk on any street, parkway or public property, which is another reason to keep the container on the lot and covered when work stops.
Asbestos never goes in a standard container. If an older Downers Grove house turns up suspect tile or pipe wrap during demolition, stop and call your account manager, who will arrange the correct handling rather than risk a rejected load.

Paint, solvents, fuel and garden chemicals belong there, not in your container.
