On private property, no permit. A container on your own driveway, parking lot or fenced site is not something the Village asks you to apply for, and in Mundelein that is comfortably the simpler route.
A container in a Village right-of-way is different. Mundelein's public improvements rules treat anything placed on, over or in a right-of-way as an encroachment, and they sit alongside separate rules for sidewalk and driveway work, street openings and excavations. Permission has to be in hand before the unit arrives, not after.
There is a second question in Mundelein that most towns do not ask, and it is worth knowing before you call anyone. The Village licenses commercial collection service, and the duty runs in both directions. It is unlawful for a collection business to provide commercial service in the Village without a Village license, and it is also unlawful for a property owner or business to arrange commercial collection with an unlicensed provider. Residential collection is narrower still: the board of trustees designates a single contractor with exclusive residential rights.
What that means in practice is simple enough. The licensing question gets settled before a container is booked, not when the truck turns up. Your account manager checks how the rule lands on your address and your material, confirms the placement question with the Village, and tells you plainly if the answer changes the plan.
The Village offices are at 300 Plaza Circle and the main Village line is 847-949-3200. No permit fee figure is published, so we will not quote one, and your account manager will get the current number from the clerk's office for you.
