Because the Village allows only one container at a time on a property without an open building permit, picking correctly matters more in Northbrook than it does elsewhere. Prime Dumpster carries 10 through 40 yard containers here.
The 10-Yard Dumpster is the smallest and the densest. Use it for concrete, brick, paver, or soil removal, or for a single bathroom, where the weight runs out long before the space does.

Northbrook is the exception to the usual rule. Even on private property, including your own driveway, the Village requires a permit before a container is delivered. There is no street or sidewalk option to fall back on either: when no building permit is open on the property, the Village's rules say the container has to sit entirely on private ground and must not block the public sidewalk.
The permit comes from the Village's Development and Planning Services office, and the form covers both dumpsters and portable storage units. The permit fee is $25.00 and the permit is good for fifteen days.
Those fifteen days are not just the permit term. Village rules cap container storage at fifteen days in any ninety-day period, allow only one dumpster per property, and allow no more than three receptacles outside a property unless they sit behind an opaque fence. Debris cannot rise above the top of the container or blow out of it.
One important exception runs through all of this. The restrictions apply when there is no active building permit on the property. If your project already has one, they do not bite in the same way, and the form itself warns that an unpermitted job discovered during a container placement can draw a stop work order and fines. Ordinary construction and household debris is fine. The restrictions come from Illinois law and from the transfer station that weighs your load.
Illinois bans covered electronics from landfills outright, and the ban reaches businesses as well as households. As of January 2026 the full list of covered devices is barred, taking in televisions, monitors, computers, printers, scanners, keyboards, speakers, and cable and satellite receivers. The state also says whole tires are banned from landfills, so they need their own route.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of any container, and the transfer station serving this area is explicit about it. Its published rules refuse hazardous waste, household chemicals, liquids, batteries, and paint at the gate.
The Village's own curbside service is no help with building debris either. Its rules treat remodeling material as household trash only in very small amounts, with nothing over four feet long or fifty pounds per bundle and no more than a cubic yard per collection. Anything beyond that belongs in a container.

Northbrook sits in a county with no landfill left for this material. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's own capacity report shows that, as of January 2026, only four landfills in the Chicago region reported available capacity, and not one of them is in Cook County. Two are in Lake County and two are in Will County, which means every container leaving Northbrook travels.
The first stop is usually the Glenview Transfer Station, run by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. Despite the name, it stands at 3 Providence Way, Des Plaines, IL 60016, on the east side of Des Plaines River Road just north of Central Road. It is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. and again from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to noon. It is closed Sundays and closed to contractors in the middle of the weekday, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Every load is weighed on the way in and on the way out, and trucks 24 feet or longer may be turned back when unloading space is tight. Your account manager can confirm where your debris is headed and what the disposal charge looks like before the container is dropped.
