On private property, including your own driveway or a fenced site, Oak Park does not require a placement permit for the container.
The moment any part of the container sits on a street, a parking space, the parkway or the sidewalk, you need a Public Right-of-Way permit from the Village. The Village says so directly on its permit portal, which lists dumpsters alongside moving trucks under that permit type. Everything is filed online, and you have to register for the portal before you can apply.
The cost is charged per day and per 25 feet of space, so a longer job costs more. The Village's published 2026 construction fee schedule sets it at $15.00 per day for the first 10 days and $25.00 per day from day 11, with another $10.00 per day for each metered or permit parking space you take up. Keeping the container only as long as you need it is real money here.
The Development Services Department handles these at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Call 708-358-5420 if you have a question about your spot, or email the permits office through the portal.
One more thing worth knowing before you book. For houses and small residential buildings of five units or fewer, the Village runs trash and recycling collection itself under a single contract, and the code does not allow an owner of one of those properties to bring in a private firm for that household service. That rule is written about household garbage, refuse and recyclables. Separately, the Village code puts construction debris on the property owner and the lead contractor, who have to supply their own containers at a construction site and arrange disposal through private haulers. Larger multifamily and commercial buildings contract privately for everything. Your account manager will confirm which of those applies to your address before anything is scheduled.
Before you book, confirm with the city that a container can be placed for your job at your address. Rules differ from city to city and they change. Your Prime Dumpster account manager will help you check, and will tell you plainly what your options are here.
