Most building debris and household junk is fine to load. The exclusions come from the City code and from California law.
The City's own prohibited list covers hot ashes, sharps, flammables, live ammunition, household hazardous waste, infectious waste, explosives, poison, hazardous chemicals, and animal remains. Any of those found in a container can draw a contamination charge.
Electronics and universal waste have their own ban. Brentwood's code states that disposing of electronic waste such as televisions and computer monitors, and universal waste such as fluorescent bulbs and household batteries, is prohibited, and that whoever generated it is responsible for taking it to an approved recycling facility.
Medical and biohazardous waste must go through a licensed collection and disposal company, not a container.
Household hazardous waste has a free route for East Contra Costa County residents through the Delta household hazardous waste drop-off events, reachable at 925-756-1990.
Paint, solvents, fuel, oil, and asbestos stay out of any standard container. If one item has you unsure, ask your account manager before it goes in.
