Most remodeling and cleanout debris is fine to load. The limits come from California's rules on hazardous and electronic waste, from the City's own list, and from what the landfill will take.
California keeps hazardous and electronic waste out of ordinary containers and landfills. That means no used motor oil or oil filters, no paint, solvents, or strong cleaners, no household or vehicle batteries, and no pesticides or weed killers. Televisions, monitors, computers, and phones belong in electronics recycling instead.
Glendale's code adds the broader category it calls excluded waste. That takes in hazardous substances, infectious and medical waste, corrosive and volatile material, regulated radioactive waste, and anything the receiving facility reasonably believes it cannot lawfully accept.
Liquids, fuel, propane tanks, and asbestos stay out of a standard dumpster too. Tires and large appliances need to be handled on their own, so mention them when you book.
Los Angeles County holds free collection days for household hazardous and electronic waste. The county's Clean LA line is 888-253-2652. If an item has you guessing, check with your account manager before it goes in the container.
