Nearly every dumpster load from Modesto ends up at the Fink Road Sanitary Landfill, at 4000 Fink Road, Crows Landing, CA 95313. Stanislaus County owns the site and runs it through its own Department of Environmental Resources, and it has served Modesto since 1973. The gate is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it's closed Sundays, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and after noon on Christmas Eve.
The landfill takes household and commercial garbage, construction debris, roofing materials, concrete and other inert material. It charges by the ton and it weighs everything, so what you load decides the disposal side of your bill more than anything else does.
Covering the load is not optional. State law requires it, and the county backs that up with a flat $100 charge on any uncovered commercial load arriving at the gate. Our drivers tarp as a matter of course, so that one is handled for you.
The City also runs household and business cart collection through franchise agreements with set service areas, which is a separate system from a temporary container rented for a project. Your account manager confirms how those rules apply at your address, and which facility is taking your load, before anything is booked.
