Everyday remodelling and clearing material is fine. Two layers of restriction apply: the statewide list, and the receiving facility's own sorting rules.
CalRecycle's list of wastes banned from the trash rules out batteries of every kind, fluorescent tubes and lamps, latex and oil-based paint, solvents, aerosol cans with anything left in them, pesticides, antifreeze, motor oil and filters, tires, asbestos, treated wood and compressed gas cylinders. Electronics are banned from the trash as well, so televisions, monitors, laptops and phones need their own route.
Because Campbell material goes to a mixed processing facility rather than straight into a hole, contamination matters more here than in many cities. A load that is mostly one material sorts well and prices well. Drop a bucket of wet paint, a bag of household trash or a few sheets of asbestos cement into an otherwise clean demolition load and the whole container can be reclassified.
The usual bans apply on top: no liquids, no fuel, nothing hazardous, nothing still alight. When an item is borderline, ask your account manager before it goes in.
