Everyday building and household debris is welcome: framing, drywall, roofing, stucco, flooring, cabinets, fencing, carpet, furniture and cleanout material.
California keeps a long list out of the trash. Paint, solvents, used motor oil and filters, batteries, fluorescent tubes and other mercury lamps, and electronics all need a separate route. CalRecycle publishes the statewide list of material banned from the trash, and the duty is on the person who generates it.
Sacramento County adds its own requirements at the gate. Green waste and clean wood must be separated from other disposal material and dropped in their own area, and oiled, stained, painted or treated wood has to be kept out of the clean wood pile. The county's Kiefer Landfill page also notes that Kiefer is the only county facility that accepts treated wood waste such as railroad ties and fence posts.
Asbestos, liquids, contaminated soil and pressurized cylinders are excluded everywhere.
Loads must be covered. Both the county and the city code require a transported load to be secured so that nothing spills or blows out, and that is enforced at the scale. If an item is borderline, ask your account manager before it goes in.
