Most remodel and cleanout debris can go in. The limits come from California's statewide list of wastes banned from the trash and from the landfill's own rules.
CalRecycle's list includes fluorescent tubes and bulbs, all batteries, oil-based and latex paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosol cans that aren't empty, antifreeze, and motor oil and filters. It also covers asbestos, wood treated with chemical preservatives, and gas cylinders like propane tanks. TVs, monitors, computers, and cell phones are on the list, and tires are banned too.
Hazardous waste, liquids, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster either. Yolo County runs a household hazardous waste drop-off at the landfill on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for chemicals you need to get rid of.
