Orange County runs three active landfills, all owned by the County and operated by its own waste department rather than by a contractor. Which one takes your container matters more here than in most markets.
Olinda Alpha Landfill at 1942 N. Valencia Ave, Brea is the closest to Orange and takes both commercial and public loads. It is open Monday to Saturday, with transfer trucks only from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and commercial and general public from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. It also takes soil that meets regulatory compliance criteria, and clean broken asphalt free of charge since July 2, 2026. It stopped accepting treated wood waste on January 1, 2021.
Frank R. Bowerman Landfill at 11002 Bee Canyon Access Rd., Irvine is commercial only: the County states that no public disposal is permitted there, and commercial customers have to show a current Orange County business license, a California contractor's license or similar identification. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for commercial haulers and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for transfer trucks. That restriction is worth knowing, because it means a homeowner with a trailer has no access to Bowerman while a container on the hauler's truck does.
Prima Deshecha Landfill at 32250 Avenida La Pata, San Juan Capistrano takes commercial and public loads Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., accepts clean broken asphalt free since August 1, 2026, and has accepted chemically treated wood waste since April 16, 2021.
Two county-wide rules apply wherever your load goes. The County's published fees for the year beginning July 1, 2026 charge $15.00 for a car or SUV load under 360 pounds and $30.00 for a pickup or van load under 880 pounds, with a further $15.00 for hard-to-handle items longer than six feet, and only Olinda Alpha and Prima Deshecha are open for public disposal at all. And the County requires proof that the waste came from Orange County, by driver's license or a utility bill showing the address where the material was generated.
Your account manager confirms which landfill your container goes to, and whether your material is accepted there, before delivery.
