Ordinary construction and clearing debris is welcome. Two sets of limits apply: the statewide list and the landfill's own refusals.
CalRecycle's list of wastes banned from the trash covers every type of battery, fluorescent lamps, latex and oil-based paint, solvents, aerosol cans that are not empty, pesticides, antifreeze, motor oil and oil filters, tires, asbestos, treated wood and compressed gas cylinders. Electronics are on the list as well, which means televisions, monitors, laptops, printers and phones.
The Calabasas Landfill adds its own refusals: liquid waste, tires still on their rims, salt and brine, detergents, sandblasting sand, fly ash, all special wastes, non-hazardous material containing asbestos, and electronic waste. Hazardous material, paint, medicines, sharps and used oil are routed to the county household hazardous waste program instead.
One local quirk worth planning around: a green waste load is only accepted if it is genuinely clean, and the Districts name concrete, dirt, plastics and household trash as contamination, along with palm fronds and palm trunks. On a brush clearing job that usually means two containers rather than one.
Standard limits apply too: no liquids, no fuel, no wet paint, nothing hazardous. Ask your account manager about anything unusual.
