Nearly all coastal renovation and household debris loads without trouble. The real limits in this market come from the Orange County landfill gate, and two of them catch people out.
Orange County turns treated wood waste away at every one of its landfills. That covers pressure-treated lumber from fencing, decking, railway ties, playground equipment and telephone poles, which is exactly the material a coastal deck replacement produces. It needs its own handling, and it is worth identifying before demolition rather than at the scale.
Tires are no longer accepted at any Orange County landfill, so they cannot ride along in the container at any price. Keep them out and set them aside.
Hazardous material is out as always: paint, solvents, thinners, fuel, motor oil, pool chemicals, pesticides, asbestos material and liquids of any kind. In Laguna Beach's older cottages, asbestos can appear in floor tile adhesive, textured ceilings and pipe lagging, so testing before a gut is the right step.
One more Orange County condition is procedural rather than material: proof of county origin is required at the gate, by way of a county driver's license, a current utility bill for the job address, or a contract showing the origin address. Your account manager will tell you which document your job needs.
