A few local details set your price. Size counts, and so does what you throw out. Where the dumpster sits and which landfill takes the load matter as well.

The prices below reflect general ranges for a standard five-day rental period. Your account manager will confirm tonnage, overage rates, and other specifics before you book.
| Size | Average Price Range | Approximate Dimensions | Common Price Factors |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-Yard Dumpster | $399–$499 | 12' L × 8' W × 3.5' H | Debris weight; heavy materials like concrete reach limits quickly |
| 15-Yard Dumpster | $449–$569 | 16' L × 7.5' W × 4–5' H | Debris mix; combined light and heavy materials affect disposal fees |
| 20-Yard Dumpster | $499–$649 | 22' L × 7.5' W × 4.5' H | Landfill distance; out-of-county loads may carry higher tipping fees |
| 30-Yard Dumpster | $599–$799 | 22' L × 8' W × 6' H | Debris volume; longer rental periods may apply for larger projects |
| 40-Yard Dumpster | $699–$899 | 22–24' L × 8' W × 8' H | Project scope; commercial and demolition loads vary widely by material |
Each rental has three parts. We drop the dumpster off, you fill it, and we haul it away. Your job details shape the rest.
Size comes first. Then comes the type of debris, the days you keep the dumpster and the job address. Tile, plaster and dirt get heavy fast, and extra days add cost.
Each landfill here sets its own tipping fees, and those fees end up in your quote. In this state, how you sort a load can count as much as where it goes.
Two examples of how county disposal differs in practice:
So a crew that keeps concrete apart from wood and drywall can save a lot near Sacramento. In Orange County, a few old couches can raise the rate on the whole load.
Fees change, so check your county's own pages. Your account manager can tell you which site takes your debris and what sets your final quote.
A dumpster on your own land, like a driveway or a fenced job site, often needs no permit. A street, sidewalk or alley is a different case. You'll need an OK from the agency that runs that road before drop-off day.
The state leaves this to whoever owns the road. Two kinds of office can apply:
Not sure who looks after your street? Your account manager can find the right office before your drop-off date.
Most home and job site debris is fine to load. The limits come from what each landfill's permit lets it take. Here, those rules start with CalRecycle, the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.
CalRecycle bans a long list of items from the trash. Batteries of all kinds are on it, along with fluorescent tubes, paint, solvents and pesticides. So are antifreeze, motor oil, TVs, computers and propane tanks. Treated wood must be dealt with as hazardous waste. Tires are banned too.
Hazardous waste, free liquids and friable asbestos stay out of standard landfills, as they do across the country. Asbestos must go to a site with a special permit.
Some sites add their own rules. Orange County's landfills take only waste from inside the county, and staff can ask for proof. Olinda Alpha Landfill in Brea no longer takes treated wood. At Miramar Landfill, trucks are checked at random for hazardous waste.
Have old TVs, tires, fridges or something you're not sure about? Ask your account manager where those items should go before you start loading.
Counties, cities and private firms all run landfills here. The one that takes your load depends on where your job is.
Kiefer Landfill is at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. in Sloughhouse and serves Sacramento County. It's open seven days a week. Drivers must keep trash apart from green waste, clean wood and recycling.
Olinda Alpha Landfill is at 1942 N. Valencia Ave. in Brea. It's one of just two Orange County landfills open to the public.
Miramar Landfill is at 5180 Convoy St. in San Diego. It's the city's only active landfill. It's open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
CalRecycle issues the solid waste permits these sites run under. When you book, your account manager checks which site will take your load and flags any limits it sets.

A standard five-day rental in California runs from $399–$499 for a 10-yard dumpster to $699–$899 for a 40-yard. The final cost depends on the size you pick, the debris you load and the landfill that takes it. Your account manager confirms tonnage limits and overage rates before you book.
Not from the state. A dumpster on your own driveway or lot often needs nothing. One on a public road does. Caltrans handles state highways with an encroachment permit, and each city handles its own streets. Your account manager can help you find the office for your address.
Batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, TVs, computers, propane tanks, treated wood and tires are all banned from the trash here. Hazardous waste, free liquids and friable asbestos stay out too. Some landfills check loads at random, so pull these items first.
Each landfill sets its own fees and rules. Kiefer Landfill near Sacramento takes clean concrete and brick for free but charges for trash. Orange County charges more when a load holds sofas or mattresses, and it takes only local waste. The same debris can cost far more in one county.
No. CalRecycle bans tires from the trash to stop mosquito breeding and tire fires. Some landfills take a few car tires a day for free and charge per tire past that. Set tires aside and ask your account manager where they can go.
Yes, but landfill owners pay it, not you. Each one pays the Integrated Waste Management Fee to the state tax agency based on the waste it takes in. That cost is built into its tipping fees. Your account manager can explain how dump costs show up in your quote.
