Nearly all tract-home renovation and household debris loads without trouble. The limits that bite here come from the Orange County landfill gate, and two of them surprise people.
Orange County landfills refuse treated wood waste outright. That covers pressure-treated lumber from fence posts, patio covers, decking, railway ties and playground structures, which is common material on a 1980s tract lot. It needs separate handling, and the earlier you identify it the better.
Tires are not accepted at any Orange County landfill, so they cannot travel in the container at all.
Everything usual on the hazardous list is out: paint, solvents, thinners, fuel, motor oil, pool chemicals, pesticides, asbestos-containing material and liquids of any kind.
Two local rules are worth knowing beyond the material list. The City's code bars depositing or dumping solid waste of any kind on private or public property without a zoning use permit, and it separately bars dumping any tire anywhere other than a facility authorized to take them. And the City's curbside service will not take dirt, rocks, building material, furniture, appliances, water heaters, car parts, anything over 50 pounds or anything longer than four feet, which is precisely why a renovation needs a container rather than the curb.
Where something sits on the line, put it to your account manager before the container is loaded.
